Istria Pula or Porec
Posted: Mon May 26, 2008 01:20 PM UTC
I am staying for a week in Rovinj and want to book another week which will be with a few adults plus a couple of children. Would your vote go to Porec or Pula and why?

Porec is similar to Rovinj - they are of similar size, both are located on peninsulas, both have large tourist resorts surrounding them (with beaches, sports and nightlife options etc.)
Pula is larger, but not too large. Has interesting historical layers (old Roman city, old Austrian military port,...) and offers more in terms of shops and restaurants but lacks the postcard-like scenes you will easily find in Rovinj and Porec.

If you will have a car my advice would be to consider some of the agrotourism places in inland Istria. This will definitely be different from the tourist resorts of Istrian western coast. Even if you stay in geometrical center of Istria with a car you'll never be more than an hour drive from the beach. Plus, it is the interior of Istria that is definitely worth exploring - its small towns on hills, beautiful landscapes and small restaurants serving authentic food.

(I suggest visiting Istria pages by VT member JLBG if you're interested in seeing what the interior has to offer. Plus he stayed in one agrotourism place I can also highly recommend.)

I completely agree with the whole message of VT Diocletianus. Pula has undoubtedly much more to offer than Porec (though I love Porec). Actually, Pula has also its post-card like scene with the arena!
