You can get to Dharamsala/ McLeod Ganj by bus. I talked to people who were very pleased with the comfort level of the "Deluxe" bus. Another option is to travel by train to Pathankot, then take bus or shared car or van the rest of the way.

Take Shtabdi Airconditioned train depart Newdelhi Railway station from Plateform no 1 in the morn. at 6.15 a.m that reaches Chandigarh city beautyful at 10 a.m. from here take bus or taxi upto Dharamshala. you can also do sightseeing quikly in Chandigarh like famous Rose garden, Rock garden and lake while proceeding before on to Dharamshala. Chandigarh to Dharamshala road distance is 252 K.M and aprox takes 5 to 6 hours by car
