| Bologna | Bologna in August? Posted: Sun May 25, 2008 06:47 PM UTC
I'm thinking of going to Bologna on 5th Aug for a few days but I've been reading that it's like a ghost town. Will all bars/shops/restaurants be closed?

August is vacation month for the Italians and most businesses will be closed for the entire month.

It is my experience that there is no particular decrease in bars, restaurants or shops available during August.
In previous years I have been to Tuscany, Lake Como, Lake Garda, Venice, Verona and Sorrento during August......not Bologna, but be assured Italy is not anything like a ghost town in August. Regards, Billy

Don't concern yourself about Bologna. It depends heavily on the tourist trade and everything will be open. It is true that Italians generally take their summer holidays at this time, but not where there is a dependency on tourism.
Coincidentally, we will be in Bologna for two nights from 31st July.
