Berchtesgaden How long..?

Hi

I'm doing a day trip to Berchtesgaden and want to visit : the salt mines, Eagles Nest, top of Mount Jenner, Lake Konigsee and St Bartholemew. Is it realistic to do all of this in one day? In which order - roughly - would you recommend?

Two days would be better. Going to the top of the Jenner takes some time, especially if the lines are very long. And I suppose once you're up there you want to enjoy the view for a while. Then down again and to the boat taking you to St Bartholomäus. Again there will be lines and you may have to wait, so you won't have time to go Eagles Nest and the Salt Mines the same day.

Will you have a car? If yes, you may just make it, but you'd have to take the very first cablecar up and really rush. If not, I don't see any way you could combine everything in one day.

Yesterday there was a fire in Kehlsteinhaus (usually called Eagle's Nest) and people had to be evacuated by helicopter. The elevator couldn't be used and the path down was too dangerous, as it's still full of snow.
Check the news before you plan a trip there to see how much was damaged.

Where are you traveling from ? When are you visiting ? Are you driving, or using public transport, (train, bus) ? All these things would be factors to be considered. Two days probably would be more enjoyable for you. My visiting order would be (1) the lake area, (2) Jenner, (3) Salt Mines, and (4) Eagle's Nest, because of the fire, and because you will have already visited the Jenner area. There are also quite a few walking trails in the area, and a national park nearby. The views from the town itself are quite nice in their own right. Gary

I just read an update about the situation at Kehlsteinhaus. It seems there was a technical problem with the elevator which automatically caused the fire alarm. Maybe there was no fire at all. The report also said there is still 1.50 meter of snow up there!

I would say no way.
Without a car it will take forever to transfer between these places. The salt mines are 3 km from the train station and buses run not very often, especially on weekends.
2 days or 3 days, then no stress. Vacation stress is very bad.
