Hi there,
I did this trip using Andrea Tours and they were fine. Their offices are located in the plaza in Uyunii. They need to fill the jeep with 6 people to make a tour which in our case happened during the day we were in Uyunii. I didn't make any pre-booking. Cheers, Rhianon

If you want to book from Uyuni you can try Red Planet but avoid Colque....otherwise there are some good agencies in La Paz that can help you arrange from there!!

I had an excellent tour. I booked with Swiss Bolivian adventures based in La Paz, and they just took all the hassle away and arranged everything from the bus ticket from La Paz to the hotel in Uyuni and the tour on the Salar. On return I booked my jungle trip with them they were so good!

I have been trying to decide how to answer this question about Salar de Uyuni tour companies. Although it is important to have good equipment and facilities, actually I think the key is who you are with. They like to put 6 passengers in a Land Cruiser. There will also be a driver/guide and there may be a cook. You will be sharing a car and sleeping rooms with the other passenegers for 3-4 days. Hopefully you and the other passengers will be compatible. Also, don't expect fine infrastructure. If someone complains too much, the driver may get annoyed and not give good service or will be in a hurry to get back.
I have been on two tours out of Uyuni. I went with Colque in 2003 and had a good experience. There were only 4 passengers, so we had more room. The food was good and ample enough. Their quarters in Chuvica were new and nice, and the food and entertainment from the local orphange were excellent. Their quarters at Laguna Colorado were barely adequate, but they may have a new facility there now. This southern loop is 3-4 days and has some of the most amazing sights you will ever see. I went to the northern Salar de Uyuni with Thunupa Tours in 2006. This time it was again 4 passengers with a driver and cook. The service and food were excellent; however, the water system in their Coquesa quarters broke down during the night and the bathrooms got pretty bad. Otherwise, their facilities in Coquesa are quite good. This location also has the advantage of being near the mummy caves. I also happened to chat with my friend, Mario Nina (Eco Tours and Treks in La Paz), yesterday. He is now recommending Cordillera Tours in Uyuni. They even have their own small salt hotel near San Juan.
