well, this won't sound original, but the most popular places in Norway are Oslo, Trondheim and Bergen (& its fjords). Trondheim would be on your way from Tromsø to Oslo. I haven't been there myself but I've heard there is a beautiful cathedral. I'd say that the western part of the country is, overall, more spectacular than the east. Bergen and fjords wont be on your way to Oslo, but I'd try to visit both: Bergen, as a city, is quite nice to see, speciacially the area around the harbour. There are several major fjord areas around and you can easily get to all of them from Bergen. The most visited one is the Sognefjord. The train trip from Bergen to Flåm (a little village in the Sognefjord) belongs in the Unesco's world heritage list and there's no wonder why...
The lofoten islands would be nice to see too. They're quite in the north of the country, but so is Tromsø :P Actually they'd be on your way down from Tromsø.
6/7 days arent enough to enjoy Norway, I'm sure you'll want to come back. I've been there 3 times already and can't wait to be there again.
Have a nice trip!

I am not very familiar north of Trondheim, but don't miss out on Lofoten

Is it an option to drive from Tromsø to Bergen, instead of Oslo? I would recommend that if it is doable. If not I would spend most of the time from Tromsø to Trondheim. Røros is a good idea so if you are not going to the west coast and the fjords, I would recommend Røros to be the last overnight stop. Røros to Oslo is a nice leg for driving on one day.

If you can go on the west coast I would recommend taking the coastal route fairly qiuckly after Trondheim. If you go drive from Trondheim towards Kristiansund (PS: not the same as the the more known Kristiansand), you can drive the atlantic coast road that jumps from island to island at the edge of the continent, south from Kristiansund. From here you could go further south on the west coast towards Geiranger, or you could head towards Røros, through Åndalsnes and Dombås.

I agree that you should spend most of your time between Tromsø and Trondheim - I'd recommend driving the "coastal route"; take the ferry from Brensholmen on the outer edge of Kvaløya (near Tromsø - you'll also want to see Sommarøy / Hillesøy near Brensholmen, lovely!!!) to the island of Senja. Senja is beautiful, and a detour to amazing Husøy is highly recommended! See my Tromsø pages and my Troms Region page for more info (and photos) if you're interested. (Some info on my Norway page too).

From Gryllefjord on Senja island you can catch a ferry to Andenes (ferry operates from mid June) - and continue down to Lofoten from there.

There is so many things to do. I definatly recommend Lofoten and "Kystriksveien" (The coastal way in Nordland).

I would also stop at "Saltstraumen" near Bodø City.
