Seattle Enough Time?
Posted: Thu May 22, 2008 09:26 PM UTC
Our flight leaves Seattle for Orlandon on Fri at 11:30pm. We are thinking of taking the Clipper ferry from here (Victoria) to Seattle which arrives at 9:45pm. Do you think we'll have enough time to get to the airport and check in for this flight? Either that or we take the day off of work and take the earlier ferry which gets us in at 2:15pm.

Thanks!

I would suggest that it is not enough time if arriving at 9:45pm. Theoretically, from downtown Seattle to the airport is about 30 minutes, but what if the Clipper is late, the traffic is heavy on a Friday night, or the lines at security are long? This is cutting it just a bit too close, in my opinion. You'd be a lot safer arriving here at 2:15pm. Maybe enjoy a nice late lunch at a seafood restaurant on the waterfront, or at one of the hotels, which might even store your luggage for a few hours before you need to go to the airport. Have a great time!

It is highly unlikely that you would get to the airport on time if your ferry arrives into Seattle at 9:45 PM. THere is virtually no margin for error or delays. You would be much better served by taking the earlier ferry and enjoying some of Seattle

The key phrase is "should get in at 9:45pm". Then you have to go through U.S. Customs and then you have to get to SEA.

I can almost guarantee that you will NOT make your flight!

You will need to be at the airport a minimum of two hours prior to departure for check-in and security.

All above are right.
Don't try it
*If* the clipper is on time, you won't likely be through customs and out of the terminal until 10:15 or 10:30 or later.
Then add between 30 and 45 minutes to find a taxi and for it to rush to the airport (hoping for no traffic snarls and hoping the 1 drawbridge enroute isn't open) ... all of that puts you arriving at the airport 11:00 or likely later.
Airlines and the airport say to allow 2 hrs for checkin, clearing security, and getting to the gate ... although I've done it in 1 hour if the lines at security aren't long...
So that puts you at the gate at the very earliest possible time just as the doors are closing ... and almost surely probable more likely in time to see the plane racing down the runway into the air ... and you might be later than that.
