San Sebastián San Sebastian to Italy (Florence)
Posted: Tue May 20, 2008 10:35 PM UTC
Hi,

I'm intending to get travel by land (preferably by train) from San Sebastian to Italy (Florence to be exact) in June. I wondered if anyone has done this or can tell me if it is possible to do easily. I've never traveled by train in Europe so not sure how easy it is. Looking at raileurope.com it looks very possible but could involve lots of changes. Could I do it in a day?

Any help most welcome

Might be tough to do it in a day. My friends took the night train sleeper to get from SS to Barcelona. Admittedly it leaves late at night and gets into Barcelona early. Then I would check say Barcelona to Milan, then from Milan to Florence.

This rail tour is feasible in one day but there are some transfers along. It would be nice to shake a loose leg around the TrainStations...
I am sending below the concerned link in italian railroads:

There is a Bahn german raildoad service as well:

Thank you for your replies. Lot's to think about!

You're right not to do it all in one go - it's a long trip

I'm now thinking of hopping into France and getting a train from Bayonne to Marseille, staying the night there (Marseille) and hiring a car to Florence.

Basically I am going to San Sebastian Jazz festival with a friend and continue my holiday with me girlfriend in the Tuscany area of Italy. We reckon she could fly to Marseille and meet me there - kind of half way. The trip to Bayonne to Marseille is about 7 hours (http://tinyurl.com/4y4uqn).

see any red flags in this idea?
