Lago di Garda MONIGA
Posted: Tue May 20, 2008 05:00 PM UTC
Hi

Can anyone help with transport information. We are travel to lake garda (Moniga) in Aug and arrive at Bergamo airport late evening 9pm. Just wondered wether to hire a car or get a transfer to and from the resort as we don't intend to do much driving when we are there but i'm finding it difficult to get transfer information as we arrive too late to take the train & with 3 children and a bike a quick and easy tranfer would be preferable.

Any tips would be appreciated.

thanks

Hi there, We stayed in Moniga last year. Our advice would be to hire a car if possible.Moniga is a lovely village, quiet but we found that because we had no car we were restricted as public transport stopped quite early around 7 in the evening. The ferries don't all call to Moniga,i think 2 a day.
The problem is that the nearest train is at Desenzano about 10km away.we went to Gardaland one day and had to leave early as the last courtesy bus to Pescheira is 9.30,got the train from Pescheira to Desenzano then had to wait 2 hours for a taxi outside the station to get back to Moniga. Our advice would be to hire a car it would give you much more flexibility.

just back from moniga. We hired a car and this really was essential as it enabled us to visit some towns nearby. Moniga is a nice village but as above a car would better to see more

Sorry, I don't know the site for specific info. Would recommend restaurant at the water's edge in Porto Portese. There is only one there so you will forgive me if I don't know the name. Good food and nice views over to Gardone Riviera. The only place we ate in Moniga was at the harbour side snack bar - which was good all the same. The towns/villages on the side of the lake all have their own character and all deserve a visit and I have not seen them all but I would think if you make it to Riva at the north of the Lake you could make the most of the beaches and swimming areas there. Bardolino and Garda both have pleasant waterfront areas to promenade along. That is what is great about this area. Go to a range of places, stroll around the town, have a coffee and ice cream then visit somewhere else the next day. A car may be what you need.

Hi again, we stayed at Fontanelle when we were there last year,a lovely little site. Are you going through a company? We used Keycamp,Lovely new mobile with deck. As we said earlier a car would be really useful as the site is at the bottom of a hill so a walk to Moniga village is all up hill. The ristorante on the site we found to be very nice, good food and reasonable prices plus if you get sitting outside views over the lake. The onsite minimarket is fine with very friendly multilingual staff.Moniga village has a number of ristorante/pizzeria 3 from what i remember, the only one we tried was called Antica Corta we would certainly recommend it,outside seating in an enclosed courtyard, very nice food. If you come up from the site into the village walk through the centre past the Spar on your left as if heading out of town.Pass a petrol station on your right then there is a little lane/street on your left go up here and it's on your left.Just shout if you need more info.
