| Granada | Can't miss the Alhambra or they will KILL me! - Help!! Posted: Tue May 20, 2008 03:57 PM UTC
I am a scatterbrained mom of two young kids so that means my brain is fried most of the time. Last time I was in Granada, (hold in your breath), I didn't make it to the Alhambra!!!! My eight-year-old, tearfully clutching her copy of "Tales of the Alhambra" was beyond disappointed with me and I am going back in a few weeks. How do I GUARANTEE I can get her and my mom in this time. It's the highlight ofthe trip for them. I used to study in Granada 21 years ago and I never realized how tough it can be to get in because back then, all I had to do was climb up the hill and walk in! Well we had a series of unplanned events come up, put off getting tickets and the last two days we were in Granada last year it was closed! Seriously, they will kill me, I need to get those tickets but how far in advance and where is thebest place. I am only in Granada for 3 days this time but can I buy them from Malaga or some other city? HELP!!!

Oh and I prefer NOT to buy them online...I prefer to not have to worry about printing them out or technical difficulties.

If you don't buy them online you have the risk of find that they are run out of tickets or you may be in a long queue for a lot of time.
Seems you don't need to print the tickets, and there are ATM machines where you put your credit card used to buy the tickets and you get them with the hours for the Nazari palaces. The rest of the complex can be visited whenever you want, but you have a fixed hour for the palaces. You can also book tickets by phone Official place for buying tickets http://www.alhambra-patronato.es/ingles/inforgenrl/informain.htm they use the Sevicaixa service offered by LA Caixa bank, well known in spain, you can trust them.

I'd also highly recommend that you book them online, I imagine if you sent the confirmation to your hotmail account (or something similar), you could always access it from Spain should you lose your confirmation. If I remember correctly, I booked ours WAY in advance and they were gone by the time a friend tried to join us, the only other way they could have gotten in was to sign up for a very expensive guided tour.

No killing required ...
As posted previously, get them at the web site indicated - this is where we also got ours and hopefully will be an indication that if they sell a ticket it should be open. When you buy the tickets you need to select a time to visit Nazaries (sp?) gardens because they don't want it to be too full so they stage the entry in allotted times, so be ready to determine what time you want to be in that part of the Alhambra - I think you have to be there within 15-30 minutes or your alloted time.

Okay...it's just so hard to know FOR SURE if we will have conflicting plans if we commit to a time/date too far in advance. That's what I don't like about the system of buying tickets in advance, I mean it's not a rock concert for God's sake! I have friends there that often invite us at the spur of the moment for lunch or to go out and I am only staying a couple days in Granada, get to see them very infrequently, so with my luck, we will have tickets for the only time I can meet up with them! Arrgh! Oh well, bite thebullet buy the tickets, warn my friends...hope it goes off okay.

Sorry that I am just now answering this forum, just got back from Spain !!
We also missed ordering our tickets ahead of time because of some issues with scheduling also. What we did do was get up at 6am and go stand in line (we were not first in line either, even at 6am). We got tickets for us and our friends who met us at 8am at the entrance. Martin
