Lago di Garda Travel Forum

I am wanting to take my 81 year old mother to Lake Garda and need opinions as to whether it will be better for her in either October or April? I have been three times myself but only in August and I know that will be too hot for her.

Will all the restaurants be open those months? Do the ferries still sail regularly etc?

We are hoping to stay in either Garda or Bardolino.

Any tips or advise would be greatly appreciate. Thank you

Well. Both are good off season, but probably October has the best chances to be good and mild. It's wise to avoid the august heat to your mom.

Ferries will be running (at a lower schedule, maybe). You fill find some restaurant already closed, but at least half of them should be working. Don't worry... You'll be fine.

I saw in the other post you're a fan of Bardolino. Nice place... but ever considered Malcesine?

Thanks for your reply. TBH, I think Malcesine will be a bit too hilly for mum. She has angina and doesn't do slopes very well. I seem to recall some of the streets were pretty steep there. Also, I can get a great deal in Garda or Bardolino with my local newspaper travel club which works out a couple of £100 cheaper than other resorts if we go either April or October.

Yes, Malcesine has flat wlaks, but a few steep one...
Go for the lower lake, that has no hill..

when I went there with my grandparents it was April, the weather is really nice, you cannot say it too warm for example. And by the way it cheaper then :)
