| Rome | Rome to Salerno train Posted: Tue May 20, 2008 01:10 PM UTC
Hi. Am travelling from Rome to Salerno in mid June by train, and have been trying to buy a ticket through italian railways site, but my mastercard provider does not allow transactions with them. Does anyone know if these trains get booked out or would i be safe buying tickets when i get to Rome 3 days beforehand.
P.s. When i put in for 2 tickets they often come up with seats a few numbers apart. Would these be facing each other? Thanks for your help |

You will be more than fine buying the tickets when you get there. Hell, you can probably buy it the day you want to travel.

You don't need to worry.
Trains do not become 'full' unless they are reservation-only. In that case, you can still buy a ticket right up to 5 minutes before the train leaves, as long as there is availability. If you are worried (and want to travel on a reservation-only train), just buy the onward ticket when you arrive in Rome. If there are not seats on 'ordinary' trains (unlikely) then one simply stands until a seat becomes available. Just get your tickets from the machines in Termini (they have English options) eiher when you arrive or when you leave. Make sure you validate (date-stamp) them before you board, using the yellow machines on the platform,.
