| Washington D.C. | Neighborhood info please Posted: Tue May 20, 2008 05:14 AM UTC
I am thinking about renting a vacation apartment that is between the L'Enfant Plaza and Waterfront-SEU metro stations. Can anyone comment on this area with an emphasis on safety and appropriateness for tourists.
Thanks. |

If it was 10 years ago, I would say that you should absolutely NOT rent here. However, there has been a great deal of improvement in this area. SE Washington is a bit of a sketchy area. I'm not sure that I would still recommend it for tourists, however.
I hope that some other posters can give more advice?

Hi Samy - thanks for the info on homestays. This trip involves extended family so am looking for a large place - the one I mentioned above got rented a day before we tried to rent it. I think I have another lined up.

I would suggest you not stay in that part of the city for multiple reasons: (1) while the area is undergoing redevelopment and there are new apartments and renovated row houses it is still not a nice area after dark; (2) it is no where near the areas of DC that you are going to want to spend the majority of your time --- it may be close to the National Mall and all the monuments, but that is for day sightseeing, the neighborhoods of Georgetown; Dupont Circle; Adams Morgan; Logan Circle; U Street, etc. are where you are going to want to walk around at night; eat dinner; have drinks etc --- those are the best parts of DC. The L'Enfant area is devoid of street life except for workers that commute into that part of the city during the day. Bottom line is there are so many better parts of the city that you should stay in than the L'Enfant area. Let me know if you have any other questions.
