My friend will be studying at the University of New South Wales this coming July. He wants to get there a week or 2 before the start of the orientation seminars. He is already booked to stay in one of the local dorms but it only can accomodate him a 2-3 days before the start of classes. So would you guys reccomend a few hotels near the Uni that he can stay in before moving in to the dorm.

Try the Barker Lodge Motor Inn, 32-42 Barker Street, KINGSFORD. PHONE: (02) 9662 8444. It is right across the street from the side entrance to UNSW.

I'd have a look in the city as well, if he's going to be doing the touristy things. The YHA hostel is a good option and very central...easy for him to meet some travelers and mates to grab a beer with.

I did part of my Master's degree at UNSW, and if I remember correctly, there's a bus right at Central Station that students can take directly to UNSW with no stops...very easy if he still wants to get there.

We once stayed at the Unilodge Hotel. It is just across the gardens, and even has an indoor swimming pool.

You get lower rates if you book via www.wotif.com or similar such sites. We paid less than $ 100 per night.
