| Doha | 20 hour Long duration transit in Doha... :( Posted: Sun May 18, 2008 11:57 AM UTC
Hi.
I am in desperate need of some advice about my trip this summer. Ive booked tickets to travel from ManchesterUK to manilaPhilippines by Qatar Airways. will transit in doha - land at 18.00 and the connection flight is at 14.00 the following day which means approx 20 hours transit time. i am travelling with a twelve year old (my little sister). As you can imagine im quite concerned about this and was wondering if anyone has had experience with (extremely) long transit times in DOHA airpot. ive searched online and some forums have mentioned that Qatar Airways will provide free accommodation if the inbound and outbound flight is with the same carrier (it is, both by qatar airways) and if the transit time is more than 8hours (it is). However these forums that stated this are old (conversations about a year ago) and some people stated that qatar airways does not offer this anymore. although free accomodation provided by the flight carrier would be great - i would also like any other information that any other people has had on their experiences with long stays at DOHA airport. other options i am thinking of are: 1. is there a lounge in the airport that will allow us to sit or lie (the twelve year old will need to sleep) comfortably for about 15 hours? and if so is there a price (i am assuming there is) and how much is entry to the lounge? 2. is it possible to leave the airport to find a hotel to sleep in? will i need a transit visa? and can i get it on arrival? We will be travelling with an Indonesian Passport but we have indefinite leave to remain in the UK and a diplomatic visa to enter and stay in the philippines. Thanks very much for anyones help in advance. |

Doha airport has a "quiet room" with very reclined chairs that are sort of like a bed. The room is dark and people sleep there. You can see pictures of it by typing "doha quiet room" in a google image search. Take a pillow and blanket form the airplane as it can get cold in there. Bring a book for your sister :-).
I would also consider taking a short trip in Doha (great oportunity to see a country that is booming). Enjoy your trip.
