I want to fly over to Montevideo for a day from B.A. in October (14th or 15th. If I had only 9 hours in the city, what 3 sites should I see when I am there? And, are there any good flea markets open during the week?

My suggestions, downtonwn and the old quarter, walk by the shore (rambla).
Weekdays are not the best days for flea markets. I think on tuesdays there's a market in Villa Biarritz. Anyway in Plaza Matriz there is something but on saturdays is better.
