i want to travel from nanjing (jiangsu) to zhoushan island. i have about 200 kg luggage also. what is the best mode of transportation and route. whether i should take a bus, a train or even ship is possible? please advise me. thanks

Hiring a car (or small van) is the best, if not it is very easy to send you stuff by China Post or rail

can you please tell how and where in nanjing to get a small van to ferry luggage about 200kg (medium size bags and cartons of clothes etc)from nanjing to zhoushan or ningbo. what are the lowest rates available. can this luggage be booked on the passenger bus from nanjing to ningbo also. thanks

It sounds like you should look for a moving company to help you out.

Best is to negotiate with local moving companies if you know of any for a fixed price service. As a matter of fact you can even negotiate with taxi drivers, no business is out of the way for any of these guys. Failing that, my suggestion of using China Post is still a good idea. I have moved within China (plus sent several boxes of very heavy project documents overseas as recent as 6 months ago) using China Post, they are very reliable as 90% of the Chinese populations uses them on a regular basis. You will need to do some foot work. Go down to the nearest China Post office, buy some large green boxes (the largest they have is about 36" x 24" @ +/-10 RMB a piece) and packing tapes. Pack your stuff into these boxes then take all of them back to ship them. Believe me, I have shipped tons of books, documents, kitchen and bedroom stuff and luggages from Beijing to Shekou and from Shanghai to overseas using China Post, they arrived in almost perfect condition (compare to some international couriers). I have also shipped by rail but unfortunitely rail does not got to Zhouzhan so you need to hire a car/van anyway to pick your stuff up at the nearest drop off point on the mainland side.
