Transportation

My son and I will be having a vacation in Rapid City. We would like to take a trip to Hill City to catch the 1880 train but there does not seem to be any public transport to Hill City from Rapid City. We do not drive so the only way I can see to get to Hill City would be by taxi cab. Approximately how much would it cost to get a taxi cab from Rapid City to Hill City and how long would the journey take. We will catch the 1880 train from Hill City to Keystone one way and then from there we will need a taxi to the airport at Rapid City so we need to know approximate times. If anyone knows how I could do this then that would be helpful.

I would recommend to rent a car at the airport, get a map: and drive to Keystone(about 40 miles one way all paved.) Take the train round trip and after the ride it is only 3 miles to mt. Rushmore if you are interested in seeing it. The cost of doing it this way is far less and gives you more flexibility to look around; time wise. Also if you have the time and are staying more than one day, The drive through the Needles Highway(us87) in Custer state park across us16 and back through "the iron mountain road" to keystone is an amazing ride with rock tunnels and through pine forests and mountains.
