Visiting Bangkok for two days and as there is so much to see could anyone recommend a 'honest' tour guide who will not take us shopping (for his commission) just touring round the city -- Also is it best to tour on foot via skytrain etc rather than car?]
Thank you in advance |

Most tours in Bangkok don't need a guide. You can get to most places by using the skytrain http://www.bts.co.th/en/index.asp and the Cao Phrya Express Boat http://www.chaophrayaboat.co.th/
However, if you want a reliable and trustworthy guide contact Oat (oat747@yahoo.com)

Hi,
in daytime Bangkok is far too hot to walk around for long. I guess the answer is skytrain + walking during rush hour and otherwise taxi is best, if you have only two days. You don't need a tour guide to get around Bangkok. On the other hand, it may be interesting to see Bangkok from the perspective of the locals. Why not shopping? Bangkok is probably the best place for shopping in Asia. And when you are going shopping, a local guide could be very helpful since for most things in Thailand, there are two prices: one for Thai people one for Farang. In any case, you may want to try Khun Nattamon: http://www.bangkok-personalassistant.com/ Not a license tour guide though. And she doesn't get commissions from anybody.

Greetings from adelaide, Australia!
As mentioned in previous forum, i can highly recommend hellfire pass tours (see their site on the net). They specialise in tours around that area. Tours go from bangkok. I did a 'private' tour from bangkok, where i was picked up at the hotel, taken to floating markets, then onto kanchanaburai (river kwai, allied war cemetry), lunch, then onto the tiger temple and after that, onto hellfire pass. All came to around $220 aussie dollars...not bad for a private tour for 1 person. (Less if more than 1 person). Advantage of private tour...spend as long or as little time in each place. Itinerary is flexible. Hope this helps.

Most hotels will arrange for a tour guide for you, they are all training and certified. Make sure they show you their tour guide ID card and get the number. You can complain to the government if you want about any problems you may encounter.
