Just want to share what's going on in Death Valley at the moment - after a whole 6 inches of rain this winter (3x more than usual) there are crazy amounts of wildflowers and they are expected to bloom through July! Check out this article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7182113/

I was lucky enough to see something similar in Death Valley in the early 80's. I will never forget the colours and amount of flowers. I wish I could get there again to see this display.

Oooops! A friend sent me this article and I assumed it was current, but I just noticed the date is from 2005! Sorry about that. This year still had some great displays. I was there in February and there were already a lot of sunflowers blooming then.

Ernst, I will be going up past Bishop in a few weeks.
Can we see the flowers on 395 or do we have to use one of the highways and get IN Death Valley? Cheers.

Hey Ken - sorry about this post - it was an article from 2005! The flower season in Death Valley is over according to other sources on the net.
