There are some low-cost motels along International Drive. I can't remember which chains, but you could Google a bit. It's a nice area - and lots of restaurants nearby.

I don't know if this will fit your budget, but the Carribe Royale is a nice hotel in Orlando.

We've stayed on International Drive a few times and Quality Inn Plaza is a good value motel thats near to everything and not to expensive. If you book direct with the hotel you will usually have to pay a resort fee as extra when you check out. If you go through a travel agent that's usually included in the cost so you don't then pay extra when you check out.

Quality or Roadway is good choice just minutes to convention center or use I ride trolley. http://orlandotouristinformationbureau.com/transportation/public.htm
Here is a link for both hotels.
Hopefully you are coming during low season.

Since you are a student take lynx bus # 42 http://golynx.com/index.cfm?fuse=cstm&app=route&view=sched&cid=42
Takes an hour but will only cost you $2 each way.

Buffet restaurants are pretty cheap.
They change prices at 11AM & 4PM.
Get a late breakfast & early lunch for breakfast price or lunch an early dinner.

That should cover basics.
