| Singapore | hotel Posted: Sat May 17, 2008 12:58 AM UTC
hello!
my fiance & i will have our honeymoon in singapore & we started looking online for a nice with great location but inexpensive hotel. our budget is around SGD 200.00/night and we come accross the follwoing hotels: bayview, peninsula excelsior, golden landmark, furama hotel. please advise me which hotel among the 5 mentioned will be ideal in terms of location, service & clean rooms. it would be of help to us if you can rank them. if you have a better hotel in mind which is not mentioned, it will definitely be great! thank you very much! |

You can try Grand central which is near to Orchard the most popular city area in Singapore.

Hi,
Maybe you would like to consider to bring up your budget a little & stay in Orchard Road with all shopping mall. Orchard Parade is nice & have quite reasonable rates. try the link. http://singapore.bezurk.com/hotels/singapore/singa

Alternatively, Swissotel Merchant Court is great too. along Clarke Quay & very near Orchard Road & Chinatown.

Mabuhay!
These hotels are generally 3 stars. City Bayview is between Orchard Road and Bugis. Location wise, it's not too bad but it's between subway (MRT) stations. (Have a review of it on my VT GP page) Peninsula Excelsior is good location wise but it's a little old....but it's close to City Hall MRT station and to Chinatown and a number of museums. Golden Landmark is another old hotel, near to Arab Street and Bugis MRT is just 5-10 mins walk away. Which Furama? There are 2 now. One in Chinatown and 1 in Havelock Road. If it's the latter, then location wise, it's off the main trails. Just my 2 cents worth

As suggested, I reckoned going for Grand Central Hotel. It may the cheapest 3 star hotel in the Orchard Road belt, but location is excellent.
Out of the 4: 1. Peninsula Excelsior ( for the location near City Hall MRT ) 2. Bayview ( not in shopping area and have to travel. MRT is far ) 3. Golden Landmark ( in Heritage area, but not much shopping to do ) 4. Furama ( far from everything ) Regards, urbanmale_tods

Golden landmark is not that bad actually at a 5 - 10 minutes walk from the centrally located Bugis MRT Station and the shopping destinations, Bugis Junction and Bugis Village. But the rooms are a bit musty for my liking.
My person recommendation is Allson Hotel (http://www.allsonhotelsingapore.com). Rates should be within budget when you book from an agent. It is centrally located near both Bugis and City Hall MRT Station and within walking distances of Bugis Junction and Raffles City. It also has a nice 24-hours foodcourt serving good local fares next to it. Just my 2 cents.... :-)
