| Prague | Traveling with a 2.5 year old daughter Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 08:00 PM UTC
Hi,
We are visiting Prague from Dresden for 2 days. Are there organized trips for a day or hop on-off buses to see the main attractions? My daughter is allergic to peanut, cashew and pistachio. How familiar are restaurants staff about allergies? We are vegans and plan to have simple pasta or sandwich. Is Soy milk available in supermarkets? What is a good place to buy good wooden toys and local crafts? Seetha |

many places to buy wooden crafts but you could try a number of shops on the road up to the castle, they are less busy than in the old town.

If you want an escape for your daughter, try a tram to Vystaviste, an escape from the city centre hassle

I would go to the Babel Fish web site and type in the Czech translation for her allergies. Not everyone speaks English and may have a tough time understanding you. Some foods contain peanut oils etc. Print this out and show the waitresses before ordering.

Hi,
You can take a look at http://www.happycow.net/europe/czech_republic/prague/index.html for vegetarian - vegan places to eat. Most of the places are in the central part (Prague 1, 2, 3). There is soya milk in many supermarkets. Regarding allergies - generally they are aware of allergies, but in some places it can be a problem as the waiters have not very good knowledge what really is in the meals. In some restaurants they can refuse to "customise" a meal for you. I expect vegetarian places should handle these issues well.

I forgot about the bus.
As main attractions in Prague are very close each other, there is no hop on - hop off bus. There are however a couple of companies having 1-2 hours tour buses leaving form several points in the city centre. Inside you have headphones with commentary in several languages.
