| Yogyakarta | 1st time visit Yogjakarta Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 04:52 PM UTC
I plan to visit Yogjarkarta. I already email local tour agency for tour itinery and prices. Unfortunately, no reply from them. Plan to stay there for 4D/3N include stay 1 nite at Borobudur park, the rest of days be staying at hotel in Maliboro city. Does anyone could recommend tour guide/driver/tour agency? Thanks

Yes, email Renni at info@borobudurtourandtravel.com
Rp 350,000 for car and driver for 8 hours including gas, Rp 150,000 more a day for a guide. They are a small company located in Borobudur village and are very nice people and helpful too. Visit their website for suggested activities and email them with your interests for more suggestions.

I have also bad experiences with email to Indonesia. They never responded. They have email, but they never look, the connection is to slow or they are not used to it. It is always better to call them. This is also the case with hotels. But one phonecall (if you want in English) with hotel Kota was enough. It was clear they expected us.
I arranged a taxi (a big one for 4 passengers, a Kijang) via the hotel (hotel Kota, see my travelpage Yogyakarta). Save and for about 10 hours. I payed 400.000 Rp. included benzin. In Magelang I payed 350.000 Rp. The taxidriver was enough for us, oftenly the taxidriver knows a lot. He also helped us search for addresses we want to go to and to get permission to see some places.

Kilat has a good point about internet service in Java. I had been trying to contact Reenie in Borobudur by email last month and received no reply for a few weeks. What had happened was there had been an earthquake in Asia (near Japan I think) which damaged the cables that provide internet service to Java. Internet service is not always reliable there.

Hi, Visited Yogya last April 2008. About reservation.. I have made inquiries through www.yogyes.com. Sent email and they replied with quotations. The rate for car rental seems reasonable and I paid for i day rate 450,000 per day / 24 hrs. Some offered me 8 hrs and 10 hrs. Effectively I was using the car less than 10 hrs. so plan your time and I find that night time will end up with becak - don't worry..there are plenty. 8 - 10 hrs rental is just sufficient. Put up 3 nights at Melia Purosani; near to Malioboro. Breakfast included and the choice was ok. Paid a visit to Grand Mercure for comparison, much nicer than Melia and seems to be more upmarket and have class - boutique hotel. Next trip will be staying in this Grand Mercure. Slightly away from Malioboro but I find the distance to Malioboro is not that far - take a cab. Night time in Yogya is slightly shorter compared to say Bandung. About trip to Borobudur - I didnt go but drove past Prambanan instead - serene is the word. Catch the morning breeze...
Enjoy your time.
