I wrote a tour company to see if I could get a felucca boat from Aswan to Luxor for 20Jun. He said there are no felucca boats running during the summer and stated I needed to get a river boat cruise (which he so happens to have). Didn't sound right to me and think it is bogus but wanted to know if anyone could verify this. Are there no boats running for the month of Jun? I don’t want to get on a huge river boat cruise and would prefer to keep it smaller and more personal. Thanks for your help.

Actually, Feluccas don't go all the way from Aswan to Luxor because of the lock. They go from Aswan to where the lock is. Then you take a bus to Luxor. Also, the direction from Aswan to Luxor (north) is recommended for feluccas because when there is no wind, they can go with the current. I don't know what the wind is like in June but I'm sure a guide book or someone on VT will know.

I took a cruise from Aswan to Luxor last month. They are many cruises boats leaving each day and are easy to book when you are in Aswan.

Your question wants me to update my tips with more detail information but so far, I have not the time to do that.

He should be able to tell you if feluccas are running at that time of year. I used him for a 1/2 day feluccas ride in Aswan. He is Nubian and seems very honest. I could see it in his eyes that I was overcharged when I told him the price I paid for a cruise boat. He can also help you with cruises to Luxor should you wish.

He gave me a cheaper price for the cruise the day before, but I was hot, tired, and did not pay attention and booked with someone else later in the day for a cruise a few days later.

He even knew of the man I booked the cruise from. I plan to write tips, both about this felucca caption and the man that sold me the cruise. The man who sold me the cruise did overcharge me. He also overcharged some people I met for a Hot Air Balloon ride in Luxor.

I have a lot on information I need to go through. I will pot more tips a I get time.

I am sure the felacca's will sail when ever possible; they are not restricted any time of the year.

The question is: do you want to be on a felucca in late June?? Upper Egypt will be ever so hot, hot, hot!!!!

There are no fascilities on board a felucca to escape the sun! There is no sanitary and you will have to sleep on deck.
The sail to Edfu/Esna will take about 3 days. I think you will be sick by sun desease by then. Just no place to hide.....

I was on a very luxurious cruiser late August, cruising Lake Nasser from Aswan to Abu Simbel. We stayed inside the main part of the day. Outside was just to hot!! No one was seen on the sun deck during the day. Everyone stayed inside in the very cool airconditioned environment.

I am very sure late June is quite the same!!!!

And you can cruise private and personal if you book your cruise in Egypt, with a local travel agent. I did it several times: just my own company (husband and kids) with a personal guide to take us where ever we wanted to go at our own time.

If you prefer a felucca that is your choice. I am at an age that camping is not what I consider vacation. You might be different ;-)

That would be awesome man if you could send me some info or contacts...or at least a local number for when i get there. I tried to book one with thsi local guy but they wanted a bank draft which would have cost me $50 USD for a $125 USD...kind of lose the deal when you do that!! lol

There are absolutely felucca trips running in June. I have done one myself. Also have lots of friends who are tour guides for various companies and they do them year round. Best to go upstream.
