Hi,
If you had more time I would have suggested you stop off in Cianjur and visit my special friends there Yudi Sujana and Andang Heryana( who ran my free English school for 4.5 yrs) both of them would have taken you to a market and a high school in the town and you could have visited Papadayan volcano. Yudi Sujana has a homestay programme for travellers and one gets a really good feel for every day life in Indonesia. Anyone wanting to know all Yudi's details send me a Private Message or check out the brand new South East Asia on a shoestring book where Iain Stewart has written up a report on Yudi and his programme. I was recently in Cianjur but missed seeing Yudi because he and his wife are currently in Holland visiting his step daughter who has just given birth to her first child. But seeing you have a limited time you could visit the up turned volcano just outside Bandung,( cna never remember the name!!), there are loads of markets in Bandung and I am sure you could ask someone to take you to a high school and /or music school there. Good Luck and have a wonderful time. Pamela.

Hi,
The 'upturned volcano' near Bandung is the Tangkuban Prahu (it looks like a upturned canoe). With a hired car it takes about an hour to get there. Budget hotels in Jakarta you find in Jalan Jaksa. In Yogya they are near Tugu station, e.g. in Jalan Sasrowijayan, which is also close to Jalan Malioboro - the main shopping street. Cheers, Theo

For a cheap and good hotel in Yogyakarta: I stayed in Hotel Kota, Jalan Agran Lor (end of Jalan Kembang), in opposite of the trainstation Tugu. See my Yogya-page. To visit a market is easy, just go there and smile. I visited 2 schools in Sumatra, and also other places. Maybe it is better if you are compagned by someone who speaks Indonesian. He can arrange the contact between you and the schoolhead. I was sometimes with a Indonesian friend, sometimes alone, and sometimes with a taxidriver who did the talking. If you have a good reason for your visit, it is probably no problem. Most Indonesian like to help and have contact with others.
