| Cortona | Is there a bus from Cortona to Florence? Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 03:19 PM UTC
We're renting a car from Siena and we might have to return it in Cortona. Then take the bus from Cortona to Florence. Is there a regular bus from Cortona to Florence? Where do we board it in Cortona and where would it stop in Florence? How long is the ride? Thanks!

There is rail service from Cortona-Camucia,(the small industrial town at the bottom of Cortona's mountain) to Florence. The station at Camucia is reached by local bus from from the piazza at the entrance to Cortona proper.
For rail timetables, see www.trenitalia.com. The trip takes roughly an hour and a half. As for your rental car, I would guess the car return office would be in Camucia in any case, as Cortona proper is an impeccably preserved medieval town and quite unfriendly to automobile traffic.

I think your best bet would be going by train. You can do the commute under 2 hours. I don't think there is a bus between these 2 cities.
For train information, try www.tripade.com. The trip takes roughly an hour and a half.

Thank you for your replies. It's probably best that we just rent the car from Florence (not Siena), tour the countryside and return the car back in Florence to avoid wasting time at bus or train terminals (and incurring charges for returning the car in a different branch.) I just checked and the rental car charge is double the normal charge for renting and returning to the same place!
