take the steps so as to not surprise a bear. also step so that wild pigs do not come looking for the food you are carrying. also if you plan to camp in the hills or mountain areas at night get a bear alarm

I think that this doesn't apply to sex/gender of the hiker.I'm not so keen on meeting with shepard's dogs here but even more in others countries. However some clever Bulgarian (so Slavonic) dogs should also understand 'ku owcom' sentence shouldn't they (hahaha)?
I hardly remember any shepard's dog in Pirin or Rila- but it was long time ago.

Pirin/Rhodopi/Rila mountains:

Well signposted trails. Enough hizhas (huts)mostly no reservation needed for the huts. Stay at the trails, off the trails there can be danger of rolling rocks. Steepy rocks, so good hiking boots are recommended, also i ve also seen people doing it on their sandals. But in case of rain its not so safe. Detailed maps avaibale at the tourist office at the villages at the gates of the parks.
