When are you visiting?
No, you CANNOT get a visa-on-arrival at Shenzhen. You're advised to apply for one in Malaysia, or else I doubt you'll even be let on the plane to Shenzhen. Also note there've been a lot of problems obtaining China visas recently, reports indicate that you most probably need to have full flight and accommodation bookings for your entire duration of stay in China. Read http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa? For Shenzhen -- Hong Kong -- Shenzhen, you definitely need a double-entry visa.

I don't know how the visa-on-arrival situation would change by then. Would it be possible for you to apply for a double-entry China visa in the Kuching consulate? I think this would simplify matters substantially for you. Apply sometime in November/December, as you'll usually have to enter China within 90 days of the date of issue.
