| Croatia | One week from Dubrovnik to Split..... is island hopping possible? Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 09:09 PM UTC
Hey all.
My chick pal and myself are taking a week out in June to travel from Split to Dubrovnik...or Dubrovnik to Split. I really want to travel by sea and island hop. Whats the best way to do this? I've heard there's some kind of nightlife in Split .. suggestions on areas to experience it???? Has anyone any kind of suggestions on how I can island hop in one week ? We have backpacked all over the world, so any good suggestions on where is good and central to stay? THANKS peeps... |

hi there!!!
Hvar & Makarska have better nightlife than Split... Dubrovnik is also good actually! we did a cruise with busabout.com but I wouldnt recommend this cause you are on the boat heaps.. an island hop would be better... there are ferries that can take you from place to place OR there should be other cruise companies that let you sleep on the island.. you could check out busabouts one way sail... http://www.busabout.com/croatia/onewaysail

Island hopping is possible from Split to Dubrovnik, although btw some islands there's no direct connection and you'd have to backtrack to Split and take another ferry or catamaran. You can island hop without backtracking from Split to: Hvar-Korcula-Mljet-Dubrovnik. Hvar is very popular. Korcula (Korcula town on Korcula island) is one of my favorite places on the coast.Mljet is a National Park (called, also, the Green Island. There is no public transport but you can rent bikes, scooters,...and go around. It's nature...nature..nature). Catamarans are cheaper than ferries and are operated by private companies. For ferry timetables check www.jadrolinija.hr and for catamarans go to www.korcula.net/grad/pitanja/index.html, all catamaran companies operating in that area and timetables are listed. As for nitelife, except Mljet, all other places have bars and clubs packed with people. If you're looking for festivals you can check www.culturnet.hr and see what's going on in the vicinity (there are many music festivals in the summer).
