Hi, I'm planning to stay 2-3 nights in KaoShiung. Any good 3-4 star hotel to recommend? I came across Chu Yu hotel which is very near the train station and the other is Citizen. Are they good? I hv 2 young kids with me(age 3 n 5). Thinking of spending a day at the Blue Lagoon water theme park.Is it worth going?Any good place in Kaoshiung worth visiting. Tks Kelly

Shopping guide: http://invest.kcg.gov.tw/specstreet/homepage_e.htm Click on tourism: http://www.kcg.gov.tw/english/# http://www.waterpark.com.tw/home/index.php Sorry, I'm not into Theme Parks so can't give you advise on it.

In spite of being the 2nd largest city in Taiwan, Kaohsiung is not known to truly cater to the "sophisticated" international travelers. Nonetheless, they do have a few nice five-star hotels but the so called "3-star" or "4-star" hotels are generally not comparable as those ones in Taipei and Taichung cities. Some of the nicer "motels" are intended for "romantic getaway" so may not be appropriate for families. Following is a list of my recommendation -
5-star Hotels: Grand Hi-Lai Hotel (http://www.grand-hilai.com.tw/) Lees Boutique & The Lees Hotel (http://www.theleeshotel.com) The Splendor Kaohsiung (http://www.thesplendor-khh.com/) - nice but a bit far Holiday Garden Hotel (http://www.hotelhg.com.tw/) - I stayed here before and it is REALLY nice. The Ambassador Kaohsiung Hotel (http://www.ambassadorhotel.com.tw) - a mid-size hotel with older facilities 3-star & 4-star Hotels: Howard Plaza Kaohsiung (http://kaohsiung.howard-hotels.com.tw/) - an older "5-star" hotel with very central location to train station. Jen Dow International Hotel (http://www.summit-hotel.com.tw/) - this one is a bit far from everything but quite nice otherwise. Metropolitan Hotel (http://www.metropolitan-hotel.com.tw/) Garden Villa Kaohsiung (http://www.gardenvilla.com.tw) CitiStar Hotels (http://www.citistar.com.tw/) - two of them, very close to the famed Liu-He night market Hotel New Image (http://www.image-hotel.com.tw) I hope this is helpful. Best luck to your vacation in Taiwan.
