Hi, I know this sounds a bit silly. But I read on some forums that a taxi ride from Shinjuku station between Sunroute Plaza Hotel is only about 700 Yen. Is it true?

It's quite possible. Distances around stations are not very far in Tokyo. It's usually just so densely packed and noisy that it's confusing to get your bearings. Once you've been somewhere a couple of times you will probably find it most convenient to just walk the distance.

If it is a 5 min taxi ride, then yes the fare should be around 600-700 yen in Tokyo.
