I this is not ideal. But how long will it take me to drive rom Thurso to Skye via Ullapool. The RAA says 6 hours.

sounds quite reasonable to me. It took me half a day to get from Portree to Poolewe, about 1 hour from there to Ullapool. We made lots of stops and took the Bealach na Ba/Applecross drive, though. The northern part of Scotland is huge.

will not only give you times, it will provide you with a detailed printable route (the AA is the Automobile Association, one of the two major such associations in the UK).

They suggest 4 hours 16 minutes, which sounds more reasonable. However, remember to allow for narrow/winding roas. tractors, traffic congestion in/near towns, weather as well as sightseeing.

The other motoring organisation, the RAC has a route planner here:

http://www.rac.co.uk/web/routeplanner/

They do suggest 6 hours+.

Interesting disparity. I always use the AA site, and have usually found their timings to be accurate.

However, distances in the UK always take longer to travel than the map suggests. Always.
