Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Rome Best Location

Two 60ish ladies in Rome September. Was thinking of booking either Cicerone or Isa Hotels in Prati area. (Someone commented that this area is boring with not many restaurants etc.) After reading forums sounds like Trastevere or Pantheon areas are better. Would like area we feel comfortable walking around at night in 3,4 or star hotel. Notice a lot of good hotels around Termini area, is this area safe at night? Any suggestions on areas or comments on above hotels would be greatly appreciated. We are both good walkers, and plan to walk as much as possible.

If I were you I'd stay in the Pantheon or the Piazza Navona area. I'm sorry, I don't know anything about those two hotels. I would prefer not to be walking around the Termini area at night.

I know the Trastevere area well. Be aware there is the cute old part near the river - which is very safe to walk around in - full of people until all hours - and the plainer area and then near Trastevere station which is quite unsavoury

some hotels - like the Hotel Trillusso say they are in Trastevere - and they are - but they are in a very plain area

I wouldnt suggest the Termini area. Iv'e stayed there and there are some great hotels and its a great central place. But you will be vulnerable, so if you're not razor sharp and on the ball with eyes in the back of your head and a spring loaded hand trap in your bag or pocket, watch out. The pickpockets and scammers can smell you coming even before you leave your home country and they'll be waiting .So take the other suggestions and pick a different area for a safe stay.

Just be aware that Trastevere can get noisy at night - people love the area. Just take some ear plugs to block the noise if you stay there. I would avoid the Termini area as stated above - daytime would not be a problem if you are alert but nighttime - I really would not suggest it.

Id recommend the Termini area also.. we stayed here last year at Notti A Roma - Via Firenze, 25

see their website if you like...

this hotel is a bed & breakfast - nice family & hotel is near shops, cafes, post office & station & buses are only a few blocks away & was not overly busy at night but safe!!!

I personally love the Pantheon area as well as the area around Trevi Fountain. We walked the streets till midnight and never felt unsafe. We even walked late around Termini and it wasn't bad. The real crimes in Rome are the pickpocketers. Anyways, Hotel Nazionale is a nice place near Pantheon, kind of Pricey but is nice - http://www.hotelnazionale.it/english/

Thanks everyone for info. Still searching through hotels. Think I have found one then find bad reviews. Still leaning towards Hotel Isa in Prati area, Relais Fontana di Trevi or Hotel Concord. All suggestions welcome. Love reading comments and picking up tips on all these forums.
Cheers, Faye

Hotel Concord is rated approx 700 out out 1150 hotels in Rome.. so I guess its average to below average...

Hotel Isa is ranked 220 out of 1150 so I think id have to say this one... remember that this ranking is based on traveller reviews...

The Bed & breakfast that we stayed at (which I mentioned) is ranked 74 out of 592 out Id have to say that this is good judgement.. great B&B
