| Puerto Vallarta | Best way to go to San Sebastian and Tequila Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 09:38 PM UTC
Hello,
We will be in Puerto Vallarta in August and would like go to San Sebastian and Tequila (visit the town and the factory). I know that there are some tours, but we would like to do the side trips at our own pace. What is the best way to go there from Puerto Vallarta: drive on our own or fly (if this is possible)? We will be staying close to Punta de Mita and we will rent a car for few days in order to do sightseeing at our own pace and not be stuck in the resort all the time. Thank you, Monica |

You'll probably be better off driving if you want to see other stuff besides San Sebastian. I would recommend the Moon Puerto Vallarta book that has a good road trip outlined to San Sebastian and surrounding areas.
For something off-the-beaten path, you may be able to visit the Huichol Centre http://www.huicholcenter.org/homeing.html Also, I would suggest a trip up north to San Blas in Nayarit to see the La Tovara mangroves and Mexcaltitan, the Venice of Mexico. It's a long day, but well worth it. It will be rainy season, so the streets will be flooded, giving you a true sense of the town. If you don't want to drive this route, you can easily hire someone to drive you. Another trip you could do is a boat ride to the Marietas Islands, which is a nature reserve about 30 minutes from Punta de Mita. Your resort should be able to arrange a panga (boat) for you to go there; there's tons of wildlife plus good snorkeling. As you can see, there is so much to do in the area, have a fantastic time!
