I hope one day to visit Satu Mare, can you tell me about the transportation systems, how long can I expect to travel by bus or train from Satu Mare to Cluj and Bucharest?

I have not been in Romania for a while now, but if you want to travel by train your best bet is to take the train from Bucharest (Gara de Nord) to Cluj Napoca and spend few days there. The fastest one is the Intercity from Bucharest to Cluj Napoca. It will get you there in about 8 hours. After your 1 or 2 days in Cluj Napoca, take the train again and stop in Satu Mare. If you take the "Rapid" (fast train) from Cluj Napoca to Satu Mare, you will reach Satu Mare in about 4 hours, 4 hours and 10 minutes. The other option (slower) is the "Accelerat" and it can take you about 4 hours and 30 minutes, up to 5 hours, to get there.
You can, of course, take the train from Bucharest and go to Satu Mare but it is a long trip. Depending on what train you take, the "Accelerat" or the "Rapid", it will take you anywhere between 12 hours to 14 hours to get there.
