| Pittsburgh | Best Things to See and Do in Pittsburgh, PA Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 03:48 PM UTC
I'll be going to a wedding in Pittsburgh next month. Any tips for the things I shouldn't miss seeing. I won't have a lot of time (and did grow up in PA), but I've never been to Pittsburgh.

If you don't do anything else, take one of the inclines up the hill and walk in the area overlooking the rivers and where they meet. I have not posted these pictures but here's a web site: http://incline.pghfree.net/
A fun activity with a great view.

| Pittsburgh | Some other things Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 10:57 PM UTC
I'll agree that the most uniquely enjoyable part of Pittsburgh is the views of the city from atop the bluffs just across the river. Some other things I've liked, depending on your tastes:
1) Carnegie Institute (art and natural history museum) 2) Point Park (history and views) 3) National Aviary 4) Cathedral of Learning, Univ of Pittsburgh 5) Frick Museum of Art (not terribly much there, but it IS free) 6) Zoo I'm not a fan of Andy Warhol, so I can't comment on his museum here -- but it's probably the largest collection of his work anywhere.

In addition to some of the ideas already mentioned, I always enjoy strolling through the market area of the Strip District, and I like the unique shops and restaurants on the South Side. Some of the best things about Pittsburgh are the diverse neighborhoods located all around downtown.
Oh yeah, if you like baseball, go see a Pirates game at one of the best stadiums in baseball, and if you are there around the 4th of July the Three Rivers Regatta is pretty good.

To add to those great suggestions above, I also recommend doing a Ducky tour of Pittsburgh. You go around the city in a vehicle that can travel on land and on the rivers while learning really neat facts and some of the history of the city. We recommended it to our guests that came for our wedding, and they really enjoyed it. They especially liked the humor and personality of the tour guides. http://www.justduckytours.com/

Definitely take the Incline up to the top of Mount Washington for one of the great city views in the USA. If you have a rental car, go over to the Oakland section of the city, where you have some good sightseeing. Visit the Cathedral of Learning (the most unique university building in the US), Phipps Conservatory (beautiful indoor gardens), and the Carnegie museums (combined art and natural history museums, with the best dinosaur collection in the US as well as some pretty good art). Feel free to visit our Pittsburgh pages for further details and info.
