| Dubai | Looking for a budget hotel Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 02:07 PM UTC
Hello,
I am traveling to Dubai in first week of June with wife and 3 kids (all under 7 years). I am looking for a budget hotel for 10 nights. I have gone through the reviews and so far Le Méridien in Deira Dubai seems economical. However, it is an apartment and as we are not looking forward for any cooking as such (and I don't see any other benefit of an apartment hotel), I would prefer a hotel room in similar price range. My range is between AED 300-400. I would like the place in Deira or Bur Dubai, close to malls and other activities. Regards, Kashif |

Kashif, why not take the apartment, at least you have more space than in a normal hotel room. You don't have to use the kitchen, there are many good, and inexpensive, cafes and restaurants all over the city.

Hi there,
Your budget may be a little short for a family of five for a Furnished apartment, but you may find some 2* hotels in Gold Souk area of Dubai with what is your budget. Check my Hotel/Accommodation tip page for the name and contact detail of many hotels and their star rating on the following URL: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/6c112/1c5710/3/?o=1&i=1 Safe trip and good luck.

You could try the Arabian Courtyard Hotel in Bur Dubai.
Or the Ascot Hotel. Or the Regent Palace Hotel. They are all located in the same area.

Hi, The budget is too low. I dont think u will get anything in that amount. If u get then that place will not be good to stay with the family. I think AED. 1000 is a starting rate for any hotel.

And if you're coming with your wife and 3 kids you will DEFINITELY want to avoid most of the 2-star hotels, especially in the Deira area.
it's a well-known fact that most of these hotels are inofficial "brothels"... not really a nice, family environment.

Yes I would definitely like to avoid any unpleasant environment as the kids are quite young. I don't want to stay in hotels that have discos, bars and other non-family activities.
I can increase my budget a bit. How about Le Méridien in Deira Dubai? It has a studio + roll-away bed under AED 600 a day. The location is near creek I guess, which seems pretty fine to me. Any recommendations?

Le Méridien in Deira IS GOOD FOR A FAMILY if you can increase your budget. Its in the center and taxi and public bus are plenty at hand.

Kashif, you're bringing three kids with you you said. Are you planning to all be in the same room or do you want two rooms?
Hotels generally will allow double occupancy plus one more in a roll-away bed but I'm not sure that many will allow five to a room.

@colin_bramso: We may take 1 B/R suite and use roll-away beds in the lounge for the kids.
I have tried to contact Le Méridien to get their recommendation on this but they just keep pointing me towards their web site. Confused! Kashif

Then I think the apartment idea is the best because of more space. There are more hotel apartments in Deira and Bur Dubai than hotels. They're often cheaper too.

Savoy Park Hotel Apartments in Bur Dubai are offering a studio for AED 550 per day. I guess its good deal. Any idea if its convenient place to reach malls (lamcy plaza, city center, al ghurair, karama, mall of emirates etc), beach and other recreations (typical of a family vacation)?
Thanks, Kashif

Savoy Park Hotel Apartments is in Bur Dubai near to AL Fahidi street, the only Shopping Mall very near is Burjuman. In this heat and being with a family you should use taxi for any other location.
Many Restaurants are very near to the hotel and you can choose many dishes!!

Yes, as Amir said it's warming up now. It's been up to 44C in recent days and humidity is rising too so beaches and spending much time outside are starting to not be a good idea!
Savoy Park is in a good location, amongst the traditional shopping area of Bur Dubai, not far from the Creek, which is the historic centre. You can walk along the Creek to Shindagah, where Dubai began, the museum and historic houses. You could walk to Burjuman mall but for Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta Mall, Mercato Mall you will need a taxi. Also for the beaches. I also suggest you visit Madinat Jumeirah. They are all on the Bur Dubai side of the Creek. For City Centre mall, Al Ghurair City mall I suggest an abra (ferry) across the Creek to Deira. You can walk around the souks there and the traditional shopping steets to Al Ghurair City but yopu'll need a taxi to City Centre.
