Khett Siem Reab angkor wat

hi

i have done some reading about the wats at angkor and the surrpoundings. these are spread over a huge area.

please share your experience as to how best to see these magnificient temples in one day i.e. suggesting routing so that essetial flavour of this wonder of the world is acchieved. any details like apportioning the time for the more significant parts of the temple would be appreciated.

can the tour be achieved on foot or motorised transportation will be necessry and if so what is the best form of transportation available.

has the infrastructure like public toilets etc improved? i was recently listening to an aussie doccumentary which highlighted that from one hotel in siem reap about twelve years ago there are now more than a hundred hotels. hopefully the infrastructure around the temples has also improved.
regards

Hi,
Best way round is to hire a tuk-tuk for the day, but it'll be hard going to see it all in a day. Try a couple of drivers to negociate the price with.
Toilets around the site are still pretty much inexistant.

Read my Cambodia/ Siem Reap pages. I wrote about my experience of going there for 1 day of touring and letting the taxi driver just take me around. I saw all I cared to see and it cost me 25 USD.

The infrastructure has improved, hotels and food are good and the taxi is the best way to go.

Hi,
If you can get out for a 6 o'clock start then Angkor Wat is the place to start. Beautiful sun rise over the temple. From there Bayon is quite close and there is the Elephant's Terrace and Ta Prohm, which are also reasonably close. After all that, if you have time I would finish up by East Mebon and then Pre Rup for the sunset.(Phnom Bakheng, too many people).

Hope this helps as also the tips and pics of other VT members.

hi musaphir
my wife and i are just back from a trip to siem reap and the temples of angkor.. if you are doing the temples in one day i would start with sunrise at angkor wat then do the main temples.
this would take in such places as bayon..baphuon..terrace of elephants..ta prohm..ta keo..then come back to angkor wat in the afternoon for another closer look.
its a bit of a rush to try and see angkor in one day..you really need three days at the least.
have a look at my siem reap page for more idea's
hope you have a good time.
take care
billy

I went there in 2005. I would suggest picking out 4 or 5 temples you really want to visit- there is no way to see them all in one day (That's why they sell either a 1-day or 3-day pass). My 2 friends and I each hired a moto-taxi driver for the day for US$7 and they took us there to see the sun rise over Angkor Wat. It was awesome! Just walk out of your hotel/guesthouse and look for them waiting eagerly for the tourists to come out! Have fun!
