| Krakow | Toilet business Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 11:53 PM UTC
I have read several tips about having change for using toilets in Krakow - I need to get a bit more specific ...
If I go to Wawel Castle - are there bathrooms easy to find? Sometimes I could be a bit more of a frequent flyer in the morning and need to know the scoop. Any other tips on locating bathrooms and the type of change needed welcome! |

If you go to Wawel, toilets are easy to fine yes. They are well marked, and anyway are at an edge of the Royal Court. I don't remember I needed any change to use it.
I remember other public toilets in the Market Square and - most of all - remember no negative feeling regarding this topic during my staying there :) Cheers gmg

In Museums and other public buildings toilets are usually located by the entrance/ticket office/main hall etc. If you really having trouble, try to locate them when you are entering the unfamiliar building. You can also ask in the ticket office, when you are buying your ticket. Polish word for Toilet TOALETA and of course the universal sign WC.
If you just strolling through the town, you can go into any restaurant or bar and proceed straight to the restroom. If you will be stopped, just pay 1 zl (1-2 zl or something like that). If the staff will be really annoying go to the next restaurant or become annoying yourself and order a club soda ;-) In big touristy places, you will be given location map with your ticket. Keep in mind that some of the posts about "trouble with Polish toilets" are from travelers who visited Poland before 2000. When we were either under the communist regime or ....recovering from it :-)

I had no trouble whatsoever finding toilets in Krakow in 2006: the castle ones are well-signed. The city was geared-up for tourists then, and no doubt is even more so now. It's a popular long-weekend destination from the UK because budget flights are available.
Can't remember how much any of them were but if you make sure you always have some small change with you there won't be a problem.

Sorry if it's my English.
Toilets for free should be in every hotel and restaurant. So you can try use Sheraton quality one (I wonder who take the money to allow built such ugly building in such nice surronding).A bathroom- it can be more expensive in Sharaton but also not so common in Wawel (unless in Royal Rooms;-). There are showers on some gas stations.I think.

Thank you for all the replies! Yes, I had read some of the posts hinting that toilets were an issue, as I had never done a "toilet post" before!
Sorry the Sheraton is an eye sore ... sometimes people have very little regard for the surrounding areas when introducing new buildings. I think a prime example is the pyramid in front of the Louvre in Paris - looks like it's something waiting to be removed!

I too like to know (a little) about toilets. I had put it down to being a Brit, but perhaps not! :-)
Anyway, no probs in Krakow.

Ah! One of the things I loved about the UK was how simple it was posted ... "toilets" - what a concept. Not "rest rooms", "lounge", just plain "toilets". Now if I could drive on the left side without hitting the curb ...

O yes....it's one of the few times that the English say what they mean and mean what they say........no faffing around, just a bog-standard name (pun intended, sorry!). :-)
