Budapest where to stay?
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 08:13 PM UTC
Driving with family of four to Budapest for a week in the early summer.
We would like to stay in a reasonably priced panzios near public transportation. Safe area that is clean. Amenities are not particularly important, but air conditioning I understand is important. Don't need to be directly down town and have heard that the Buda Hills are nice. We would prefer somewhere that we can walk to local restaurants. We speak English and German and would prefer a panzios that had staff that spoke one of these languages.

We stayed recently in Vienna about 1/2 hour out of town. Very nice place for 30 euros per person per evening with a excellent breakfast.

We plan to spend our time visiting the city and perhaps some of the surrounding countryside. I would welcome ideas on where to stay and things to see and do. Information on currency would also be welcome.

My recommendation outside Budapest, Bükkös Hotel és Étterem, in City of Szentendre, 16 km from the centre of Budapest by suburban railway, running-time cca.. 30-35 minutes. The small town itself is also very popular, look at on VT pages.

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked out the site and it looks good. I am hoping to get a bit closer to the city, but 30 minutes is not bad. It definately looks outside the typical tourist areas which has advantages.

I have found a Panzio site for Budapest-Buda oldal (Buda site). The main page is only in hungarian language, but the hotel pages are multilingual.
