Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Florence Which location is nearest to train station?
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 05:53 PM UTC
Hi! I'm planning to rent a car in Siena and returning the car in Florence, after which I hope to be able to tour Florence briefly on foot then take the train to Rome within the day.

I plan to use Europcar rental, which has 4 branches in Florence: the airport, Novoli H24, Via Borgognissanti, and Via del Gelsomino. Which branch is most convenient for getting into town (do I need to take a bus)? Also, in case I have to skip touring Florence, which branch is nearest to the Florence train station (again, do I need a bus)?

Thanks in advance!

I suggest to go from Siena to Floence by bus; it's cheaper and you don't have to pay extra money for returning the car in a different destination you pick it up from.

Redang's suggestion of returning the car in Siena and not driving to Florence is a good one if you have no plans of sightseeing in the Tuscan countryside and beautiful Chianti region on the way between the two ( recommended ).

The Borgo Ognissanti is one block in from the Arno river toward the train statin and only a few blocks away, easily accessed from the south or west where you will be coming from although you will need a map. The walk to SMN station is thru the older part of Florence or it is only a very short taxi trip.

Thanks for the answers! Actually, I'll be going to Florence from Cortona (coming from Siena the day before). Now I'm thinking, what if I return the rental car in Cortona then take the bus to Florence instead? Would this be a good plan? This way, I might be saving my husband some road stress, as well as maybe getting ourselves into Florence town much easier? (Not sure if it's easy to get around to the Cortona bus station though.)

The sooner you return the car, the more money you save; furthermore, the bus leaves you in the city centre of Florence (next door to the railway staion, Santa Maria Novella).
