anyone have any experience/advice booking for a trek if you're traveling solo? Someone said that if there is just me I might end up waiting a couple days for it to fill w/ other people. I am considering in Pai- or poss. CM. My time is limited so I don't want to run into that problem.

Joint trek with another people you have to wait for a number of people till full group but normally travels agency they will put passengers Different agency to the same group. should be no problem
Private tour you will pay more than more about 2 days 1 night 2400/THB/person but minimum 2 person. you may have check more info at http://chiangmaisightseeing.blogspot.com/2008/06/t
