How is the port area?Is it nice and sure?I've found a good accomodation there, but I am not sure...
Are there parkings for motocycle near the Old City? Any other advices about accomodation(hotel or apartment not too expensive)? Thanks! |

If you're talking about the Port of Gruz- it's not the nicest place in Dubrovnik, although if the apartment is on the higher ground you could end up having a great nite- time view of the port. I'd suggest you check the exact location of the apartment in question, it's better if it's located towards the city rather than on the outskirts (the part closer to the Bridge). I'd recommend looking for an apartment in the Lapad area (ones overlooking the Lapad bay) or ones outside the Old town- behind the Ploce gate (after Argentina&Excelsior). Although, wherever you are in Dubrovnik it's safe. Croatia is a fairly safe country overall. There are parking spaces outside the Old city before Pile gate or on the upper side(Prijeko). There are a lot of people driving scooters so....It's quite mad.

Thank you very much!
I've found this aparthotel exactly in front of the port of Gruz, but I am not sure because, generally, the port areas aren't so safe...maybe it's better the Lapad area, near the beaches. But how is Lapad? Is it only a residential zone or are there services as bar,restaurants,shop,banks,etc..? Do you know any hotel or apartment to suggest to me?

I think you would be fine in an aparthotel in the center of the Port of Cruz. I was on a boat there, and went ashore daily, walking to the bus station to go to the Old Town, or to meet with some local friends. I didn't feel any safety concerns. There's a supermarket right near the area that is blocked off for cruise ships. The bus station is just a little further toward Old Town. The bridge referred to is at the very entrance to the harbor, i.e., closer to the sea. I didn't see many restaurants in this port area, but then we either ate at one of the many restaurants in Old Town, or on board the boat. ATMs and internet cafes are right by the Pile Gate to the Old Town, which is also the major bus stop. Parking is very tight in that area, and you might consider using the very easy buses. Have a great visit!

If you'd like a suggestion for a better situated hotel, I'd recommend the Hotel Zagreb in Lapad. It's a short ride into the old town or a leisurely walk. Nice safe area, near a lovely promenade and beach. Gorgeous surroundings. Also near a supermarket, bakery, and small shopping area. Lots of cafes along the promenade down to the beach.

I was referring to the Dr. Franjo Tudjman bridge as it's practically the entrance to Dubrovnik, so it's better to be further inside from it. Lapad area has it all, banks, shops, bars... Although, so does the Port. Lapad is nicer because you're closer to the beach (Lapad Bay)and it's generally a nicer area. Port of Gruz is approx 15-30min from Lapad area. (Dubrovnik is not a large town so everything is fairly close). As for accommodation: apartments are much cheaper as hotel prices in Dubrovnik sky- rocket in the summer.
