Barcelona Hair Salon in Barcelona
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 12:52 PM UTC
I wanted to get my hair done before i left for europe this friday, then it came to me...why not get it done there? I'm not sure if many people have tried it, but I think it'll make for an interesting experience. FYI i'm a female (most of you probably guessed that since not a lot of guys would admit of thinking about stuff like this) and i don't speak Spanish. Is this do-able? thnks in advance.

There are hair salons all over the place in Barcelona. It was one of the things we happened to notice as we walked the streets non-stop on our trip a couple of years ago.

Funny you should mention hairdressing in Barcelona. We stayed just off La Rambla and had a lot of trouble finding ANY hairdresser let alone one who spoke English. In the lead up to Barcelona my wife went into a pharmacy that sold lots of the goo that goes on female heads and wrote down what she wanted. When we eventually tracked a hairdreeser down in Barc she took the notes she'd made from the pharmacy. Getting a quote seemed to involve all the customers (male and female) in the salon and the whole performance could have been made into a comedy skit for TV - we made a booking for the next day.

My wife went in and the guy went to work on her hair - then son of hairdresser went in with his new Aussie wife - who spoke no Spanish. I'm sad to report it was not the best hairdo she'd had and it was very expensive compared to here in Australia.

My advice is to get that type of thing taken care of before you leave home. You'll spend a lot of your precious visiting time trying to find what you want and then it is almost certainly not going to be what you hoped for or are used to.

I lived in Barcelona several different times for a year or more each and I had trouble finding a barber I liked. I couldn't get my hair cut the way I wanted and didn't like the barbers' attitudes and demeanor. I speak fluent Spanish, btw, so that wasn't the problem. I don't think this relates specifically to Barcelona or Spain, but just part of being in a new place.

I agree. If you want to go to a hairdresser's here you better take a photo with you of what you want, point at it with a smile and let them do their job :)
I once met an american girl from springfield, who used to say that spanish girls had the worst hair style ever...I can't see why and it was just the opinion of one of all american girls...what's most troubling, though, is that her italian friend thought the same :/
but hey hair grows :) if you feel like trying I'd give it a go.

the site for a magazine english/spanish is barcelonaconnect.com. (you can google it), It gives all sorts of information. Classifieds/info on clubs/music/hairdressers in town that speak english.
It is free in Spain, but it can be accessed on the internet, so
get accessing!
Hope you get it sorted
cheers
Mary
