There is both bus and train, but I think bus is more convenient. Go to the KTEL Bus Station and find KTEL Karditsas, destination Kalambaka (tel 2310-595440, 2310-595457). Kalambaka is the town closest to Meteora. From there you can use again KTEL Karditsas, destination Athens.

Stefanos is right, best is to take an early bus to Tríkala and change there to Kastráki. This is the village under the Metéora rocks.
http://www.ktel-thes.gr/index.php?option=com_conte probably the bus to Tríkala is the bus to Kardítsa ( see a map) I did this 5 years ago, as a one-day-trip, but now I would stay 1 or 2 nights near the Metéora, to visit all monasteries and walk around ( then i took a cab and drove around) Have a good time in Greece !!! maia
