| Napa | Camping and Wine Country in One Weekend? Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 08:04 AM UTC
I'm trying to plan a fun weekend for my boyfriend and myself, and would like to do something great for both of us. He's really outdoorsy and loves camping, and I am more excited about the idea of a wine tasting bed/breakfast type weekend. I was hoping to get in the best of both worlds, with a night or two of camping, followed by a night or two in a more luxurious atmosphere in Napa or the like. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd also like to get some biking in there if possible. I know this is pretty specific, but thanks for any help that I can get!

Not sure how you add a couple nights of camping and a couple nights in a more luxurious atmosphere into one weekend but...I don't really recall seeing much in the way of camping areas in Napa other than maybe an RV park. Sonoma isn't very far from Napa 25-30 minutes away. So, you might try to find camping areas there, too. The accomodations will cost less in Sonoma than in Napa. Hope your plans work out!

You might try the Sonoma coast or the Russian river area to combine wine and camping, then onto Napa..

Thanks for both of those tips, I'll start looking around Sonoma. I also should have made it clear that I was talking about an extended weekend, maybe 4 days instead of two, for this trip. Thanks again!

Sonoma County is a great place to accommodate both of you. For camping see http://www.parks.ca.gov/parkindex/. Austin Creek, Sonoma Coast, Salt Point, and Sugarloaf Ridge are all good camping options in Sonoma. Keep in mind they often require reservations, which you can make easily online. Mendocino County (just North of Sonoma) also has some great camping options.
For info on wineries try http://www.wineroad.com OR http://www.sonomacounty.com/what-to-do/wineries Enjoy your visit.

Anderson Valley (Boonville, Philo, Navarro) in Mendocino County has both camping in the Redwoods at Hendy Woods State Park and wine tasting at several local wineries/tasting rooms.
