The recent weather post made me wonder what anyone else has found to be accurate. The one I swear by is that if the birds go about their business as usual during a shower, it will rain all day. If they take cover it will be short lived, knowing they can come back out to feed when it lets up.

I usually find the 'red sky at night , sheperds delight' to be accurate and when you see seagulls up along the river from the mouth of the harbour it's a good sign that the weather is going to get rough.

On the other hand, if the nits start picking, there's a complainer nearby.

Over here the birds delay getting their hair done if it is going to rain all day. And if it's a shower it serves as an excuse for you to drop them at the shops rather than them getting the bus.

If the swallows and swifts fly low there is going to be rain, if they fly high the weather stays fine.
(Wow, that has almost become poetry.) Reason: The swallows fly where the insects are, and the insects stay closer to the ground if rain is to be expected. |

If the cows are lounging around on the ground instead of standing, it's going to rain.

If it's raining and the blackbirds start singing the rain will soon be over.
