Saki Body temperature measured when leaving Azerbaijan?!
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 06:50 PM UTC
I am sorry if this has been asked a thousand times, I am new to this forum and I am trying to find out how it all works... But why on earth do you have to have your temperature measured when leaving Azerbaijan? This sounds completely weird and absurd, almost Monty-Python-like... Must be a joke, for sure?

I am off to AZ in a few weeks time, and I am looking for information on places to go. The town of Saki (Shaki, Seki) seems to have something to offer, so I entered the Saki branch in this forum - and there I found (among a lot of USEFUL information, I should add!) a reference to this extremely peculiar practice. I would have been absolutely convinced it's a joke, weren't it for the fact that I have read about this in another travel forum as well. So now I'm beginning to wonder...

It's no problem, of course - my body temperature is usually pretty average ;-)

I'm also intrigued by this. My temp usually runs about 2degrees lower than the norm. Please let me know what you find out.
And- what type of thermometer do they use? Who checks it?

Hi there
I remember when we arrived in Beijing with our tour group that the guide asked us if any of us were sick with flu and stuff as there was this thermal imaging camera that checked your body temperature as you went by it. Apparently, you could have a problem getting in if the camera indicated that you were sick. I think it had something to do with SARS, as there was a bit of a problem back them with this. Why they would do it when you were leaving, I wouldn't know? Seems strange!

Until about 2 years ago they measured your temperature upon arrival at Dubai airport as well... this was (thankfully!) done with some kind of thermometer device that you simply had to stand in front of. It scanned the face or something. This was a precaution against SARS and other infectious diseases.

Hi,

I think somebody winded you up. I was in Baku last December and nobody was interested if i am heated up or not :). But i saw first time in my life strange x-ray device. This is kind a cylindrical room with glass walls. You enter this room, it is transparent and you are seen from outside. You hold your arms and soemthings turns around you and scans you. Only for few seconds but little scary. Other than that, all are the same with any airport in the world.

Thanks for all these replies to a pretty stupid question... Both references that I have to this practice refer to the northern border crossing between AZ and GE only, so it's apparently not something you're in for at leaving AZ per se, via Baku airport or elsewhere. I hope to provide the definite answer to my own question (sic) by mid-July...
