Dear All,
I'll be in Innsbruck with my mates for 3 days. We'd want to move out of the city for a day tour, we'll have our own car. What would you suggest ? Very kind of you. Regards, Kenneth |

Hi,
if you have a car and want to experience the real mountain-feeling from first hand, visit the Stubai-Valley and the famous Stubai-Glacier! The Stubai-valley ("Stubaital") stretches from Innsbruck southwest, about 45 kms. On the way (there is an excellent road) you will find some typical Tyrolean villages, like Fulpmes, Telfs and Neustift. At the end of the valley the famous "Stubai-Glacier" can be reached via a funicular ("Stubaier Gletscherbahn") up to a height of 2900m above sea level. Just drive from Innsbruck direction Neustift/Mutterberg, where the base-station of the glacier-funicular is located, and leave your car on the huge parking-lot.There is even a restaurant on top, guided tours on the glacier are daily available.

I fully agree on Stubaital. Or you could carry on to South Tyrol, across the border in Italy.
Depending on the season, and if you want to to something exciting, you could drive to the Olympic bobsleigh ice canal and race down with an experienced pilot. In summer they offer tobogganing (or however you spell that...) - not quite as exciting... In winter you can get up the mountain in Stubaital and race down on a sled. Don't crash into rocks hidden under the snow ;-)

Many thanks to both of you...We'll be there this June; would the Glacier still be a sight not to be missed considering its Summer ?

Hi,
don't worry; the glacier is a beautiful sight all year long, especially the contrast to the early-summer landscape! The only thing you have to watch is the most probably changed opening-hours of the glacier-funicular.They are published on the "Stubai-glacier " website, you already know! Good Luck and happy travelling!
